Beautiful Property Needs work in Food Quality and Service

Beautiful and expansive Marriott property in Albufeira, Portugal.. You could stay a week and not see or experience the entire property. Many good things particularly the front desk reception and bell service...

The Portulano Lobby bar has a nice atmosphere and talented musicians who perform late week to Saturday. The Mirador Champagne bar has spectacular views . Both bar however have minuscule pours for whiskey drinks . If pour is barely 1' above the bottom if the glass and service is often slow. There are many restaurants on property with different days and hours of operation. The breakfast is a large spread in the Jardim Colonial but there is nothing open before 7:30 am , no coffee bar and the wait can be problematic for dining with long lines . Does not work well if you have an early tee time . We dined one evening at O Pescador the seafood restaurant . Our waiter was insistent that we order the catch of the day , which is weighed for pricing. The fish came , filled with bones , the service was poor and the bill was over $300 euros. There are many restaurants in Old Town and the Albufeira area offering good food both in quality and value. Having worked in the events and design industry in properties all over the world I can highly recommend the property but not the restaurants . Great for couples; not so much for kids

Booked a week with our three children (all nearly four years old) at Pine Cliffs because we had heard so much about how child friendly it is, and also read reviews confirming as much. Unfortunately I have to say all those reviewers should be drug tested, as they cannot possibly have gone here with kids. This is a beautiful golf resort with a number of excellent pools, that at best tolerates children...

Nothing here is designed for kids. The family room had beds three foot high with stone floors: wriggly children falling out of bed will end up dead or with cracked skulls. There is not one plastic plate or tumbler in the apartment: every plate is porcelain; every drink vessel is made of thin glass; every piece of cutlery metal. The restaurants themselves are the same, so as soon as you sit down you are frantically moving all glasses and plates away from the children. Drinks ordered for kids are delivered in fragile glass. The buffet restaurant - a must for parents with one child, as it avoids any unnecessary waiting - is closed two days of the week, and was then closed for another two days of our stay because of a corporate function. This went for other restaurants as well, at one point half of them were closed for various reasons. But most disappointing of all was the fabled Kids Club: it is terrible! Our kids have being going to nursery and camps for the last two years so are game for anything, but within a couple of days were refusing to go because it was so boring. There are barely any toys, kids are shoved into a holding pen with some sand, and end up inside watching movies. It is staffed by disinterested looking local teenagers who seem bewildered when faced with a crying child. We weren’t the only ones, plenty of other couples had a similar experience of kids refusing to go after a few days due to it being so boring. All in all, mega disappointing, especially when it’s spoken of so highly, just cannot believe those reviewers actually have children

Brilliant Resort

Review by Allovertheplace2013 Hillsborough, United Kingdom

I’ve read a lot of reviews about Pine Cliffs and having spent a week here, I think some people need to put their lives in perspective and realise that the real world is not their fantasy world.

Firstly, the resort and its location are superb. Spacious, grounds incredibly well kept, the buildings fresh and not tired looking and staff constantly working to maintain the site – its impressive and stunning.

The facilities are great. The lift down the beach is great and it’s a lovely walk down and definitely do not go off the raised walkway to climb the rocks – its very dangerous...

The beach is lovely, sunbeds and the Mare café is right there until 630pm. It can get busy so get there early for lunch. As we stayed in early May, it was not overly busy, so dining at any time was not a problem. The staff are friendly, very helpful and always keen to make sure the guest is having the best experience possible. We cannot fault the staff at all. Staff make the hotel. The food is fairly straightforward, fresh and comes out pretty quickly.

One tip I have is to take a thick string, 2m to tie the sunbeds down to the frame and stop them sliding off the end as they can’t be held onto the bed.

I’d recommend the hotel for families, couples.

Loved it!

Review by Dee B United Kingdom

We are checking out today after a wonderful few days. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the facilities here are second to none and we would return in a heartbeat! We had a lovely spacious garden facing room which was so comfortable and it was good to have a nightly turndown service. We slept really well – it was so quiet and peaceful.

Don’t go here

Review by G5678IImichaeld Ripponden, United Kingdom

Don’t go to this hotel!

I’ve been to many “luxury collection” hotels around the world. I’ve been impressed with their service and standards. Not this one.

Although some of these things are pretty small, when added up in just 24 hrs, it tells a story of lack of staffing levels, bad service and worse standards. 1...

arrived, took 15 mins to wait for check in - just one person on reception desk. This person was surly and unhelpful 2. Got to the room late, went for food. The restaurant was way over subscribed with people and there were not enough waiters 3. Went to bed. It was hard, very difficult to sleep 4. Took a shower in the morning. It flooded the bathroom because the drain was blocked 5. Put a drink of water on the coffee table. It stuck to it because it was filthy with god knows how many years of bad cleaning 6. Wrote a note to give to reception so they could fix what was wrong (also asked for a second duvet to sleep on to make the bed more comfortable) 7. Went for breakfast. Had to wait 25 minutes to be seated as they didn’t have enough staff to clear the tables 8. Eventually got sat down. Waited 20 minutes for a waiter to be able to request a coffee. 20 mins later it arrived, was basically just hot milk, couldn’t taste coffee in it. Eventually caught another waiter to ask for a different coffee, which never arrived. 1 hour to NOT get a morning coffee 9. Went to reception to discuss my problems with the suite. Had to wait another 15 in a queue. 10. Went back to the suite after 8 hours out. Nothing fixed 11. Called reception, they said they would get right on it. 2 hours later, still nothing had happened, asked to speak to the GM, got a “duty” manager. 12. Someone came to fix the bed. They remade it, left without leaving an additional duvet (I should have checked!) 13. Man came to fix the shower. He had no idea what he was meant to do. I showed him how to fix it! 14. 20 mins later another person came to clean the coffee table. Squirted some cleaning liquid on it. Rubbed it for 15 secs and declared victory. It was still sticky and disgusting. He shrugged his shoulders and departed. I threw it out of the room as it was making my skin crawl 15. 30 mins later the additional duvet arrived. By this time my wife was In Bed so it was useless.

Called to complain again 4th or 5th time in the day. Told them I was checking out in the morning because the place was so bad and I wouldn’t be paying. Had an argument about that too.

Honestly this place is worse than a cheap and nasty package holiday place. Ruined my 6 night holiday. DON’T COME HERE.

Edit. The shower flooded again this morning - lol.

Also forgot to mention No drinks or snacks available at the pools or gardens This place is vast, prepare for lots of walking. The signposts aren’t very helpful, I noticed one that pointed you in exactly the wrong direction, not what you want in the blazing sun.

Anyway, I’ve escaped, happy now at a true 5star. 😊
