Albufeira

Magnificently set on the dunes of Salgados Beach, in the centre of Algarve and near the coastal town of Albufeira, this establishment is the ideal accommodation option when visiting the area and looking for a place to stay with all kinds of luxuries. In addition, the property can be found in the middle of a wonderful tropical setting surrounded by verdant palm-tree gardens and direct access to the beach. Nature lovers might appreciate that Salgados Lagoon natural reserve is approximately 500 metres from the premises. The spacious and light-filled guest rooms are the ideal place to truly relax and enjoy the breath-taking views. There are several restaurants that serve local and international specialities and 9 swimming pools optimal for a fun-filled holiday, as well as a children's club for the younger members of the family.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Great hotel but there were a few things that needed improving

Review by jacster88 London, United Kingdom

We stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment suite with the insanely beautiful views. That alone is worth the trip to Salgados Dunas Suites.

Starting with the excellent…..

  • the staff were so great and friendly...

They really made us feel welcome every minute of the day. I was sad to leave them.

  • the food is amazing! Lots of variety every day and well cooked.
  • the beach and especially the walk to the beach was so relaxing everyday. I just wished they wouldn’t let cyclists on too. Many times we nearly got run over. The beach itself is very lovely but the sea is quite cold. Not the hotel’s fault though.
  • the hotel itself is very nice. You can see it for miles, it does have presence. It’s in a nice setting that’s very serene. There are good amenities very close by. It was very clean, tidy and had lots of comfortable areas to hang out.

Now the bad….

  • the wifi is awful, and really non existent. After Day 3 we all gave up and had to resort to using our data. Not what we expect from this kind of resort
  • I did praise the food but I should also mention that some stuff was cold because it was left out too long. After a week’s stay, I only ever had 1 hot fried egg. Every morning it was cold.
  • Knowing the weather of the region, the hotel has chosen not to heat their pools. We stayed in May and they were too cold to use which was a shame considering they market their many pools so heavily. Shame as our kids could only use them for an hour on some days.
  • bathrooms are tiny! I couldn’t even get to the toilet in one of the en-suites!

Overall and despite the bad things, we had a lovely holiday. We hired a car and felt the hotel was in a great location to see many things in and around the Albufeira area.

This is NOT A 5 Star Hotel - Avoid!

I just spent 10 days at this hotel and I don’t even know where to start, but let me break it down:

Pro’s:

  • Excellent Staff. The staff are the only good place about the hotel. They’re very friendly and kind...
  • Cleaners are excellent and clean your room really fast when requested.
  • The breakfast has a lot of variety and the Nespresso machines are a nice touch.

Con’s:

  • This is NOT a 5 star hotel. The rooms are cheaply put together and are more like mini little apartments places into blocks. You can be be up to a 2-3 minute walk from the main building with reception. The bathrooms are tiny and even in the junior suite’s the bathrooms are tiny with a very small sink, and no bath tub.

  • Wi-Fi. There is NO WI-FI! Seriously…none. The Wi-Fi name is called “Hotspot” and doesn’t reach your room or the outside areas. It’s absolutely shocking. I measured it at 0.6mbps. This is disgraceful! It’s slower than 3G speeds.

  • No business suite/room. If you have any business to do, be it checking some emails quietly, printing something off or doing a Zoom call - forget about it. There is none. I had several important business calls and I was placed in a room with a pool table. The only upside to this was the staff allowed me to connect to their Wi-Fi which measures 6.0mpbs which allowed me to get what I needed done. As soon as I left the pool room I lost Wi-Fi connection.

  • Expensive. To use the jacuzzi or sauna area is €5 per access. Room service is a €8 fee. A sandwich on the menu were between €14-€16. Hungry and want a sandwich/burger and a drink sent to your room? Expect to pay around €30.

  • Pool area. Pools are not heated and the water is absolutely freezing. Not the biggest issue in the world but still.

  • Food. Subpar at best. Breakfast is the same every single day, although it’s a decent selection it gets old and boring after 2 days - it’s also stone cold.

  • Location. You’re about 15-25 mins from restaurants, bars or the nearest Pharmacy and taxi’s take around 15-20 mins to come to the hotel, if you can get one. They cost around €12-€25. We spent around €350 in 10 days just getting in and out.

Long story short: this is a 3 star apartment complex. It is NOT A 5 star hotel and I don’t know how the hotel can advertise this. Avoid if you can.

Almost perfect

Review by Pablopp77 Wetherby, United Kingdom

Pros This is our second time to visit and was even better than the first three years ago. On this occasion our eldest was of the right age to take advantage of the kids club - which is great and a real asset to the complex. She LOVED it and we really appreciated the whole teams efforts and enthusiasm...

Slight cons Breakfast is nice but repetitive. No real difference day to day Putting a Nespresso in the room but then wanting 1 euro per pod is taking the p1ss quite a bit

We hope to be back next year with some cheerio’s and coffee pods :)

Relaxing stay

Review by SASSI1973 Saffron Walden, United Kingdom

Rooms are really nice fresh and clean, they cleaned our room every day! The grounds are so pretty and very peaceful. Direct access to beautiful beach ! Friendly staff! Didn’t bother with the inclusive breakfast as first time was so cold! My only negatives would be to make sure breakfast is hot! And have some entertainment even if it’s just a little music! If your looking for lively this is not for you but if your like me and like the peace and tranquillity this is great

Overrated

Review by netomrosa Seattle, Washington

We enjoyed our stay (overall). Pros - direct access to the beach - relaxing environment Cons - definitely not a 5 star hotel - not very clean (kids spilled pudding out by the pool and no one cleaned anything - the mess was there for the entire week), beds were never changed during the entire stay, lots of dust and cobwebs. - staff needed more training - bathrooms super small in comparison to the actual room itself. - first night at the hotel: no hot water and nothing was done - they told us to wait 1 hour and that it would come back on, however that didn’t happen and they didn’t really seem to care. - no fresh water is left in the room after cleaning - coffee at breakfast gets cold right away - they should have a different system for serving coffee - decoration and elevators - definitely not of a 5 star hotel - very poor lighting inside rooms and hallways

Overall, loved the area but wouldn’t return to this specific hotel...

Definitely overrated and overpriced. Also, not a 5 star hotel.
