The Local Area

Trip Advisor Reviews

Nice but isolated.

Review by andrewvizard Bolton, United Kingdom

The hotel was great. It was isolated from any other amenities or resorts. The entertainment was mainly Portuguese...

The all inclusive did not include premium brands of spirits. Mini bar in the room was empty. The food was nice but not what the British might expect. Overall a nice hotel but I feel Jet2 did not describe everything correctly.

First class facilities, customer service and food need improvement

Review by siobhang846 Dublin, Ireland

Facilities top class, all clean and modern and spa area and pools a delight. Beach is a 25 minute walk so not a beachfront property All inclusive buffet food options were bland, lukewarm very predictable, we ate locally 3 nights as could not take the food anymore. Kids food was literally pasta, pizza and chips every night, not good enough for a 5 star. I would expect more variety , grill station and/or themed nights for example...

I have stayed in many 5 star hotels and this was the worst food available i have ever experienced. The a la carte (one night included in all inclusive) was amazing and well worth a visit. Queues are what I will remember most about this holiday, queue to check-in and out, queues for towels, queues for drinks, queues for restaurant reservations this needs to be improved. Some of this was unnecessary for example having to reserve lunch at the pool restaurant is ridiculous. Staff are not trained very well in customer service which is the hallmark of a 5 star hotel, not on offer here, lots of grumpiness and misinformation for example I asked day 3 for information about late check-in told to come back the next day, when I did was told the next day and when at the third time of asking I was told it was unavailable.

Half-term & Birthday family holiday

Review by Chris A Hamble, United Kingdom

This was our 6th visit to the Palace since it opened 9 years ago.

We stayed for 5 nights (with a week away) then back for 3 more nights in a Sea View Suite and then the Presidential Suite as a family with a 5 and 6 year old.

We specifically came for two of our Birthdays.

We had a lovely time and were very happy.

I feel sad about the other negative reviews and want to address them from our point of view:

  1. Show cooking IS available in the 19th hold a la carte poolside outdoor terrace lunch (12-3) restaurant in terms of hot: stir fry's, pasta, tagliatelle, noodles, prawns, calamari, steak, chicken etc...

The food is fantastic. They do offer a la carte table service and Wendell was an excellent waiter and very attentive. Some of the female waitresses were less attentive and you had to get up and get your own wine.

  1. Entertainment. On: 9 May to 9 October 2022. This IS available in English. There is a varied offering raging from Kids Club sessions, Pirate boat activities, Arts & Crafts, Aquafit, Sports, weekly Reptiles shows, weekly bird shows, evening lobby live singers and bands 8-11pm. Kids Mini Discos at 9.30pm. Check out the salgados palace website, look under kids club, then animation programme and you will see a PDF of a daily offering for kids, adults and evening music too.

  2. I saw people from the sister hotel (NAU Palm Village) in yellow bands taking the Red English Tea Bags - this is why the other reviewer said there were none!

  3. There is still a problem with the sister hotel customers (Palm Village) in yellow bands using the pools, especially pirate ship pool and particularly the after lunch snack restaurant 4-6pm and coffee machine.. One day there were 18 yellow band customers taking up half the children pool sun loungers with no room for Palace customers.

  4. Some great and fantastic staff:

Paulo & Tiago - Duty Managers Ricardo - Maitre D / Asst Mngr Bar / Rste Renata - Senior Bar Marcel - Reception Maria - Asst Rste Mngr Moonlight Wedell - A La Carte Waiter Goncalo Team Leader - Kids Club

Great fresh food, premium drinks, smart clean bars and restaurants, lots to do if you plan it, train to the beach (9-6) or walk to other beach in 10 mins, daily pool towels, bottled water from all bars and towel hut, daily toiletries & towels in room, great evening live music & bands, good reptile and bird shows, good kids club sessions, on-site golf club house and 18 hole golf course.

Extensive SPA is amazing and 1 visit included per 1 week say or only €10 per person (under 13 not allowed).

Entire premises is very very clean.

A very well done to the cleaning staff.

The only slight faults were:

  1. Bottled water in room forgotten on some days but when reception notified it was sorted immediately;

  2. Room Nespresso machine often drip tray and used capsules not emptied;

  3. The boys kids club toilets brush holders were all corroded, rusty and should be replaced.

  4. One weekend there was a Zumba Dance festival in the congress centre and some of the delegates became over excited, drank too much wine and literally took over the main buffet restaurant and caused mass chaos and disturbance to all staff and Palace customers alike!

Overall, a Very pleasant stay.

We've already booked to return for the summer holidays :)

Not a 5 star hotel!

Review by V-ruthy Brierley Hill, United Kingdom

We stayed here for 3 nights,. The place is very business like & not very inviting. Not once did we get any service with drinks to our table, not even at dinner, everything was self service! The food was absolutely awful, I’ve stayed in some lovely hotels, both 3 & 4 star, they have show cooking & fresh meat stations etc...

this hotel had nothing. The food really let it down. All of the kids entertainment was in Portuguese. It’s got nothing at all around it, 15 mins in a taxi. The only plus point to this hotel was the pools! I would never return here again.

Definitely not a 5* hotel

Just spent a week at the nau salgados palace and was really disappointed.... Most of the staff where really miserable and the reception staff were really unhelpful.. except 1 young guy and a guy who helped with the bags and the bar staff were also really nice and professional...

We had travelled around Portugal before we arrived at this hotel. Staying at 3* hotels and the standards where so much better.

The room was tired, the plug in the sink was broken, also the drain in the shower was broken and the toilet was smelly

We had a meal in the top restaurant where the food was amazing, but the service was awful, we sat there for 3 hours. There was not enough staff. The food in the main restaurant was ok, but not 5*. Hardly any Portuguese food. One morning there was not any English t.bags in the whole hotel.

We traveled from the other side of the world to come to this hotel for a family event. So you can imagine are disappointment and it has totally put us off fully inclusive.
