Formed by the “Pelícanos” and “Ocas” buildings, this spectacular resort is ideal for family vacations all year round and for discovering one of the most important tourist destinations in the Mediterranean thanks to its privileged climate, beaches and great nightlife. Sub par hotel

Review by 467jacobg Redditch, United Kingdom

We came to this hotel with an open mind from the 29/05-03/06, 5 night stay. We left feeling very disappointed.

First of all the staff in reception move with all the urgency of a sloth that hasn’t got a good nights sleep. Meaning there is a permanent queue in reception area...

As well as that they clearly do not like the guests of the hotel as they’re very short with you and rude.

The sun bed situation is also a joke if you want a sun bed you have to queue for the pool 30 minutes before it opens and then stampeded to the beds hopping you don’t get trampled by one of the many keen sun bathers. Then shock once every body has secured their sun beds with the infamous towel and random belongings, they disappear for hours at a time. Pool staff do there best to prevent this by leaving no return slips and bagging up peoples belongings after so long but this isn’t enough. The pool itself is a good size and should you fight you way to a sun bed you will have a good time.

The food in the hotel is bland and offers no variety, we ended up skipping breakfast and lunch as the food made us feel unwell on the first day. The only saving grace was the snack bar (all inclusive only) as the food there palatable and you had unlimited soft drinks, juices and tea/coffee.

The entertainment staff by the pool, who did all the water sports were absolutely fantastic so enthusiastic and pleasant (reception staff take note). An asset to the hotel.

The property itself needs updating corridos are dated and damaged. The rooms also are a bit grimey: with mysterious stains on the curtain. A splash of something yellow on the ceiling and just about every wall marked scratched or dirty.

If you are into partying the hotel is situated 5 minutes from the strip.

Great Hotel

Review by Becks4580 Shrewsbury, United Kingdom

I stayed here over May half term with my two daughters. We arrived a few days before the school holiday (Wednesday) where it was quieter, but nicely so as we definately saw the difference come the weekend in terms of how busy it was around the pool. We loved the pool and spent most of our time here...

We never queued for the pool and often went down about 10 and other than the last 2 days, always got beds no problem. People do come and go throughout the day so often later in afternoon there are beds too. Inflatables/balls can be used in smaller pool by Ocas building but as soon as it got busier, you could see why in the main pool they don't allow. Rooms and hotel very clean. Food, again something for everyone but please remember this is a 3 star hotel. The snack bar was great and to be honest my youngest daughter lived off food from there. It was a small buffet style area so just help yourself with hot or cold food. Staff were always helpful and friendly. When we arrived there were a few hen and stag parties but no problem at all. The entertainment at night was mediocre but I have older children and they preferred to play in the children's area with the other children. We left 31st May but believe there is more on from 1st June which is classed as their high season. My youngest (10) joined in with some of the day time activities run by the kids club and really enjoyed it, the staff were great. Overall we had a great stay and would come back without doubt. I've rated it 5 as for a 3 star hotel it's brilliant and would definitely recommend. It's likely most pay more than they would normally for a 3star hotel, but that probably because of the links with the TV show, to be honest that's what we did, just to be around that pool!

Not the best!

Review by Lynne61uk United Kingdom

Check in was slow but not as bad as previous reviews, maybe we were lucky. Rooms basic but they are clean and the beds are comfortable. Fresh towels daily...

I made a mistake and booked superior rooms not realising they do not have a balcony! I can’t blame the hotel for this I didn’t research fully! Pool area is very nice. However be prepared to queue in the morning as they don’t allow access until 9am, we discovered this as we took a leisurely stroll to the pool only to find ourselves at the end of a very long queue at 8.45! Then it’s a free for all as people literally run to get sun beds, there are plenty but they do all go within a few minutes of them allowing access. Quite simply the worse experience I’ve had of getting a sun bed at a hotel. And if you want to reserve a sun bed and then go for breakfast that’s a no as if you leave your bed unattended they’ll remove your belongings and you have to go and collect them. Surely an hours grace should be allowed? I can understand the logic of beds being reserved for hours and not used but some guests were literally gone for 20 minutes and had not only had towels removed but their bags too! All week my 2 teenage grandsons have played with a ball in the pool until today when the lifeguards have banned everyone from taking balls in to the pool, quite why I’m not sure they were just was told balls aren’t allowed. Neither are inflatables apparently. I can absolutely understand the need for safety but this is overkill, seriously fun isn’t permitted in this pool!! Food is mediocre, yes you can probably always find something to eat but is it enjoyable - In my opinion no but each to their own. Overall not an awful hotel but would I stay here again - absolutely not.

Such a shame

Review by KarenE392 Burton upon Trent, United Kingdom

I was very apprehensive after reading previous reviews before arriving to the Sol Pelicanos. We arrived at lunch time and yes there were queues, a couple of other receptionists joined the front desk so it did go down fairly quickly. We are a family of 7, 5 adults 2 children and booked three rooms All inclusive...

We had requested if we could be placed close together and have room with balconies as celebrating a special occasion. On check in this didn’t quite go to plan. One of our party was put on floor 8 without a balcony, when questioned the reception staff , she then demanded more money to move rooms, we refused and Luckily I had a confirmed letter from Jet 2 guaranteeing that we have balconies , so after being very rude and angry towards us we all managed to get balconies but spread around the ocas building , floor 1, floor 4 and 7. The Reception staff do need a lesson in manners and how to treat there paying guests. This issue with rooms with no balconies does need addressing as so many unhappy guests arriving not realising that they were allocated these rooms. Room were cleaned daily and cleaners very friendly. Pool areas are kept clean and when we arrived there was no issue with sun beds but on our last day it was hard work to get one and I ended up with a warning ticket when I went for food even though my other family members were sitting laying on the other sun bed. Yes pool police you hear throughout the day with the whistle, such a shame that you can purchase inflatables from the on-site shop but no one, even children can’t use use these in the pool. Disappointed with day entertainment for families as normally have lots of games etc to join in with but only spinning in the pool seemed to be on offer. Evening entertainment was also a wash out, repetitive , no proper shows or kids mini discos so lacked atmosphere. Pool snack bar amazing one of the best things about the place, fresh food throughout the day and so much choice which is very unusual for a snack bar. All inclusive drinks , yes great choice apart from cocktails, if you pay for one you do get served a proper cocktail otherwise very watery substance is offered. Breakfast great choice, plenty to choose from, so no one can moan about this. Dinner not so great but understand it is hard to cook for the masses, but unfortunately plates / glasses very dirty so you may need to sift through to find a clean one. Lots of stag and hen parties , our floor smelling of weed for most of our stay.
On the whole , great pool area, perfect location as not far from the beach and shops, etc but very disappointed, we just had to make the most of it. But definitely would not ever stay here again.

Sunbed madness

Staying at the Sol Pelicanos with the kids for a half term break. The hotel isn't bad, the food is ok and the rooms are ok. However getting a sun bed on a morning is dreadful...

They don't allow people around the pool until 9, by that time there's a line of people though to the next hotel. It's madness trying to get a sunbed. If you get your sunbed and then go to breakfast they remove your towels. No one tells you that this is going to happen so you can imagine the trouble it causes. I tried to complain to the reception but gave up after waiting for 40 minutes. I did complain to the Jet2 rep and wa told "well don't leave you towels".
